The cebil, whose wood is often sold as Patagonian rosewood or as curupay, is native to Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay where it grows from 50 to 80 feet tall with a 2 to 3-foot trunk diameter. Its heartwood is a pale to medium reddish brown with darker brown to black streaks.
