Wenge (pronounced WHEN-gii or WHEN-ghay) is native to central Africa. These trees can reach 90 feet in height with a 4-foot trunk diameter. It’s heartwood is a medium brown with nearly black streaks. With an oil finish, the wood can become nearly black and is dark enough to be used as a substitute for ebony.
